Ten soldiers have been killed in an ambush during a raid on a Boko Haram base, in the region of Lake Tchad, according to a Chadian official.

The Secretary-General of the region of Lake Chad, Sadikh Khatir said that seven soldiers have also been wounded in the ambush.

However, the Chadian Army Spokesperson, Azem Mabermando, in an interview, did not confirm the death toll but affirmed that the army has destroyed Boko Haram’s base and recovered weapons and ammunition

This movement, which started in 2009 in Nigeria, has constructed bases, in some small islands in Lake Chad, surrounded by Nigeria, Chad, Niger, and Cameroon.

The Chadian Army launched in April an attack on Boko Haram after the killing of 100 Chadian soldiers during a raid on some bases of the Chadian Army.

President Idriss Deby Itno confirmed that the jihadists have been kept away from the zone, while more than 360.000 persons, in the region Lake Chad, have fled to avoid attacks and floods.

In early August, the Chadian president admitted that Boko Haram was still capable of causing great damage to Chad.
