A contingent of the national gendarmerie has left Nouakchott Sunday evening, destined to the Central African Republic as a part of the UN force for peacekeeping in this country.

According to the Mauritanian agency of information, the detachment is composed of 140 elements: 9 officers, 103 gendarmes, and 28 non-commissioned officers, distributed between operational, medical, technical, and logistical formations.

This detachment underwent, for two months, training on laws and methods adopted by the UN on the defense of Human Rights, protection of threatened minorities, and assistance to victims of intercommunity conflicts.

The general secretary of the Defense Ministry, Mohamed Vall O. Maayif, urged the members of the contingent to respect the orders of their superiors and be in harmony with the laws adopted, under the auspices of the UN.

The general secretary of the Defense Ministry said this detachment is the fourth mission of gendarmerie to go the city of Bria (Central African Republic) for peacekeeping and the ninth to be dispatched to take part in peacekeeping missions.
