Mali: Former military appointed Mali’s transition leader

The president of the National Council for the Salvation of the People of Mali announced on Monday the appointment of former Defense Minister Bando as the transition leader.
According to the president of the council, Colonel Assimi Goïta, this nomination was made by a committee selected by the council.
Bando was the Defense Minister in 2014, succeeding Soumaylo Bouba Maïga.
This appointment comes after several weeks of differences between Malians over the nature of transition power, in addition to pressure from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) on the military junta to immediately nominate civilian personalities.
