Petroleum Minister: we are preparing a plan to develop SNIM

The Mauritanian Minister of Petroleum, Energy, and Mines, Abd Essalam O. Mohamed Salih, said that the authorities are working on a reform program to develop the National Industrial and Mining Company (SNIM) and to activate its economic, social, and developmental benefits.
The Minister visited on Friday the company SNIM, where he chaired a meeting with the company’s senior executives. He pointed out that the visit aims at identifying the challenges that impede the company from the increase of its productivity on the global level, as it does not currently exceed one percent of the iron production worldwide.
During the meeting, some executives of SNIM called for enhancing the expertise and supporting the capabilities to tackle the challenges that the company has known for a long time.
The Minister listened to a presentation on the company’s role in the national economy and the current developments on exports and mineral exploitation, where Mauritanian is considered the second exporter in the African continent.
The company’s annual revenues for the last year exceed 880 million dollars, in addition to the future projects that aim at exporting more than 18 million tons per year.
Mohamed Salih’s visit included wheels and wagons manufacturing, the iron ore processing plant, and the concrete beam factory.
