Report: Tasiast paid 79 million dollars to Mauritanian government in 2019

The Corporation Kinross Tasiast of Mauritania said that it paid, in 2019, 79.4 Million dollars to the Mauritanian government, in taxes, fees, rights, and royalties.

The Corporation added, in the report of social responsibility of Kinross, issued on Monday, which focused on sustainable development, that is allocated in 2019 more than 1.6 million dollars( more than 60 million ouguiyas) to form operation and support functions and general training in the field of Environment, health, and safety (EHS). According to Kinross, the allocation also supported the personal development domain to promote an administration made up of Mauritanians.

The report, issued every two years, said that the company’s policy had reduced the number of foreign jobs, decreasing to 4.5% of the workforce. According to the report, it also provided privileges to the workers, such as production bonuses, health care, and allowances that amount to 50 Million dollars (1.9 billion ouguiyas). Allowances were paid in the form of basic salaries.

As for environmental work, the report said that the company’s performance in water management and the progressive control of air quality and energies are exemplary. Treatment processes are designed for recycling water, which allowed the reuse of approximately 79% of the water in 2018 and 76% in 2019.

A triennial audit executed in 2019 had successfully allowed the renewal accreditation of Tasiast as a company compliant with the international cyanide management code.

Regarding the social and economic field, the report indicated that Tasiast contributed immensely by creating sustainable jobs, training, procurements, biddings, taxes, and targeted social support.
